Central US Road Trip ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

October, 2024

The epic HWY US 50 melted into a great road trip

Ever heard of the legendary and most lonely road in the USA? Welcome to HWY US 50 whoโ€™s stretch between Delta, UT and Reno, NV is the least travelled highway in the continental US.

So three friends decided to give it look and โ€œconstructโ€ a road trip around it.

The Route

The original start was Rapid City SD and finish set for the capital of Nevada, Reno. However since we wanted to travel in style and comfort the choice went for a full size SUV. Unfortunately it turned out that no rental company would have a one way rental between the two cities. So the last bookers (my two friends ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ‘Œ)had to pick up the Chevy Suburban in Denver already and drive up to Rapid City to meet and pick me up.

From there we visited Badlands N.P., Mount Rushmore and then drove all the way up to I-94 and first stopped in Miles City, MT.

From there we followed I-94 for a while, then heading South to Red Lodge further on over the Beartooth Pass (with 10โ€™947 feet one of the highest) all the way to West Yellowstone, WY.

Day three was touring Yellowstone N.P., passing the Tetons and staying for some great food and fun in Jackson Hole, WY.

Day four was a long drive though mostly Utah South on I-15 to Nephi, UT, very close HWY US 50.

Day five was finally hitting and driving the epic road with a side visit to amazing Great Basin N.P. staying over in Eureka, NV, a classic miners town in the middle of nowhere

The last leg was a relatively easy drive further on US 50 to our destination, the capital of Nevada, Reno.ย

And last but not least the day we flew out of Reno we went for a short drive up to Lake Tahoe for lunch.

The fun, experience and camaraderie

When it comes to friendship, sharing common passions which in our case are exploring of-the-beaten-track places, food and wine, driving in general having funny and serious discussions with plenty of jokes is just a great way to spend time together. It was a fabulous week and it calls for a repeat somewhere else on this planet.
